Chapped lips? Test my top remedies & forget the problem!

Chapped, extremely dry and rough lips have been bothering me recently. While seeking ways of making them smoother and bringing back moisture, I realized that the problem is very common. That is why I decided to talk through the topic with you. How to moisturize chapped lips? Sit back and read on 🙂

Chapped lips? You’re not alone!

If your lips are chapped, don’t worry – you’re not the only one bothered by the problem. Actually, it affects thousands of women worldwide! The causes of dry lips are varied and surely worth knowing.

Your lips may be very dry as a consequence of:

  • seasonal changes e.g. spring solstice.
  • general fatigue.
  • licking or biting the lips.
  • dehydrating lipstick formulas.
  • lack of suitable lip care.
  • too much stress, hormonal changes, diseases.

In my case, chapping of the lips was caused by a few things: skin was dehydrated after winter, I ditched lip care, plus I started licking the lips almost religiously and wrongly hoping that by doing so I would moisturize them!

How to care for lips on a daily basis?

The truth is that our lips deserve our care as much as skin all over the body as well as nails and hair do. The lips might deserve even more because the skin in this area is extremely thin – there are no sebaceous glands so there’s no sebum that would prevent the loss of water. Besides, the skin on the lips is in contact with sour or spicy foods which may intensify different kinds of irritations. Summing up, it has a hard life.

Day-to-day lip care is a remedy for lost moisture, smoothness and softness. Hands down, moisture-boosting lipsticks and balms (e.g. popular EOS) make a great choice but you should also think of some home remedies for chapped lips. You will get desired results with lip skin care that gives a full range of effects. Even more so when the problem is really serious and you can see cracks in the lip skin.

How to repair chapped lips? My top remedies

Let’s get down to the practical part. I’m sure you’re waiting for some tips. Here are my ways of getting rid of chapped lips. I’ve tested them and swear by them.

1 REMEDY FOR CHAPPED LIPS

DIY sugar lip scrub

I simply love this scrub because it’s both amazingly-working and very… tasty! To make a sugar lip scrub you need:

  • 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar.

You mix the ingredients, apply the blend and massage the lips for a couple of minutes, doing your best not to eat the scrub. You can either use your fingers or spread it by rubbing the upper and lower lip against each other (like you do with a lipstick).

What are the benefits of homemade honey and sugar lip scrub? Most of all, it smoothes out skin and exfoliates dry skin. This way you remove flaky skin, plus you moisturize the lips because honey is a natural humectant. As a result, the lips are smooth, soft and hydrated.

2 REMEDY FOR CHAPPED LIPS

DIY lip protective balm

The other recipe is a bit more complicated but using it really pays off. A homemade lip balm lets you keep the smoothness and hydration you received from the scrub. The list of ingredients is slightly longer:

  • beeswax capsules.
  • cosmetic butter e.g. shea or babassu.
  • cold-pressed oil e.g. argan oil.
  • optionally, vitamin E, raspberry juice.

This chapped-lips remedy gives great effects but you need to follow a few steps first. You melt wax and butter in a 1:2 ratio (use a water bath), and then you add your oil (same amount as butter). It’s worthwhile to enrich your homemade lip balm with a few drops of vitamin E and raspberry juice (if you want it to have a color and gently tint the lips pink). Pour the mixture into a jar and let it cool down. Your natural lip balm is complete!

What are the benefits of DIY wax and oil lip balm? Above all, it moisturizes dry lips, preventing the loss of hydration. Thanks to nutrients (oil, vitamin), it aids in repairing the skin on lips, firms it up and soothes irritations.
