Various forms of aromatherapy treatments always gain in popularity during cold seasons like winter or autumn. Such essential oil therapies not only help warm our bodies up but also they create a nice and cosy atmosphere at home. The most common forms of aromatherapy treatments include baths, massages, inhalation and poultice. All of them require using essential oils.

1. Aromatherapy baths

In aromatherapy baths, essential oils fulfill two tasks: added to water, essential oil penetrates skin and when evaporating, it gets into lungs together with the inhaled air. How to prepare such bath? Fill your bathtub with warm water and then add either an essential oil or an oil blend. Remember, if the water is too hot, the oil might evaporate too fast. Also, bear in mind not to add lathering agents if you want to enjoy all the benefits offered by natural and essential oils.

One session of aromatherapy bath should last 15-30 minutes. While sitting in the tub, massage your body to boost blood flow, which in turn improves absorption of oil by skin. When you leave the bath, towel dry your body, neither rinse the oil from your body nor be rough with the drying. It’s worth realizing that aromatherapy bath may be given to the entire body or just chosen body parts, e.g. hands or feet.

2. Aromatherapy massages

It’s a variation of a classic massage, yet it requires using natural oils. Depending on the cosmetic used, you can be offered various effects that include cellulite reduction, skin resilience improvement and rejuvenation. Additionally, aromatherapy massage is also able to stimulate tissues and help your body relax better. The massage has to be performed using an oil blend: 10 ml natural oil + a few drops of essential oil. Such treatment can be given to the entire body or just chosen body parts.

3. Aromatherapy inhalation

The main task of this treatment is to relax the body as well as to deliver conditioning and health improving properties. During aromatherapy inhalation, you have to inhale essential oils to get them to your lungs. Such treatment can be carried out with the use of a ceramic candle chimney, sauna, massage, bath or a special SPA capsule.

4. Aromatherapy poultice

Herbal poultice therapy is used for local skin treatment. In order to prepare such poultice, you have to take gauze or cotton wool and damp it with essential oil thinned with water. Such aromatherapy herbal poultice needs to be applied to damaged skin. Then it has to be wrapped with foil or blanket to increase the temperature and keep the heat inside.
