Reactive skin needs a completely different approach to skin care because every form of negligence on your side might end up in new irritation. Check what products you can use on a daily basis if your skin is sensitive. Get to know its needs better.
A feeling of comfort is hard to achieve when almost every cosmetic triggers irritations, sensitizing the skin. This is a problem that sensitive skin owners face. The skin itches, smarts and goes red way more often than other skin types.
What can you do to minimize the skin irritation? What’s the best day-to-day sensitive skin care? Which products to use for reactive skin?
Mild skin cleansing
Cleansing for a good start.
The skin which is prone to irritations also needs cleansing but you can’t use products that most people use. The reason is obvious: such products usually contain strong, irritating washing substances that dry out and irritate the skin.
To remove makeup and clear sensitive skin of impurities, you need a mild emulsion which is odorless (zero synthetic aromas), has a natural pH (zero soap) and neither irritates nor dehydrates skin (zero parabens, alcohols, etc.).
Regular supply of moisture
The lack of optimal moisture is a very common trigger for irritation. That is why moisturizing reactive skin every day (ideally both AM and PM) is a must.
You should use two types of products:
- humectants that deliver water to skin.
- emollients that strengthen the hydro-lipid coat.
Of course picking the best moisturizing product for easily irritated skin is no mean feat. Above all, it must be like a lightweight lotion and be free from possible irritants such as colorants, aromas and essential oils. Instead, a cream for sensitive skin must be rich in ceramides which reinforce skin’s natural protective barrier.
Super-gentle scrub
Does exfoliation sound like a crazy idea for sensitive skin care? Not at all! Like other types, sensitive skin flakes and needs to be backed up during the exfoliation process. A mild scrub doesn’t do harm – it helps remove dead skin cells and stimulate repair process. The use of a proper exfoliant shouldn’t worsen the skin. It should help.
What type of scrub is suitable for sensitive skin?
- Designed for skin prone to irritations.
- Based on delicate exfoliating acids.
- Without coarse-grain abrasives.
- Gentle, working on the skin surface.
Protection against external factors
As the name suggests, reactive skin reacts to numerous external factors, therefore avoiding the stimuli is the best thing you can do.
To be more precise, what causes hypersensitive skin? Particularly the products you use so pay attention to things you apply to the skin. The sunlight doesn’t benefit reactive skin either so sun protection matters a lot. Still, there are some other triggers that seem innocent and harmless like new perfume, new clothes made from different fabrics, air-conditioning or central heating, and even contact with some plants.
