On this beautiful, sunny day, I’ve got a short makeup guide for you. It is about creating flawless nude lips. I don’t mean just ordinary nude – I mean ideal, matte lips! I’m sure you all know that getting perfect and natural-looking matte-finish is very tricky!
I guarantee that the task will be way easier with my hints. I share my never-let-me-down tips for priming the lips for makeup, picking the best products and using them correctly.
Flawless lip makeup – get lips ready
Before you reach for a lipstick, you need to prime the lips. It’s like painting the walls – first you need to put setting coat so that the paint holds and looks good (sorry for the comparison, I’m having the house renovated).
Hands down, exfoliating and moisturizing the skin is the best way of preparing your lips for makeup. You can use a variety of methods such as using a toothbrush and a lip balm. I combine both things in one product, namely, I use a DIY honey + sugar lip scrub. It’s cool for exfoliating dead skin cells, massaging the lips, increasing blood flow and making lips smooth and soft, plus it has a nourishing effect, ensures optimal levels of moisture, etc.
Recipe for a home sugar scrub
You need the following ingredients:
1 spoon of natural honey.
1 spoon of coarse-grain sugar.
How it’s made? Mix honey with sugar, and that’s it!
How to use it? Apply a pretty large amount of honey-sugar scrub to your lips and massage it in with the fingers or smack the lips. Note! Keep yourself from eating this super-sweet cosmetic and keep massaging the lips for 2 minutes or so.
This way you get smoother lips that are ready for makeup. This stage is particularly important when you plan on using a matte nude lipstick which emphasizes even the tiniest imperfection of your lips.
Lip makeup. What’s the best matte lipstick?
The final look of your lips mostly depends on the product you choose. The choice of cosmetic is a critical stage – a well-suited matte lipstick guarantees perfect coverage, long-wearability and amazing effect.
You can pick among liquid tints, traditional lipsticks, pencil, etc. You can also check products that I swear by, that is my top matte lipstick choices:
- Golden Rose Longstay Liquid Matte Lipstick
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick
- theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes
- Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet
Flawless matte lips step by step
It’s time for the most wanted part of today’s post, that is step-by-step instructions on how to apply a matte lipstick. Contrary to appearances, you can’t just put some product and smack the lips. Too little or too much lipstick doesn’t give a desired look…
I summed up my way of applying a matte lip makeup into 5 steps for you. Obviously I skip the scrub stage that has already been talked through.
- STEP 1 Outline the lips with a lipliner that has either a neutral color or a color similar to your lipstick.
- STEP 2 Apply a small amount of the lipstick but remember to use a lip brush so that application is easier.
- STEP 3 Smooth the product over the lips evenly, ideally filling the contour; remember that less lipstick means better effect.
- STEP 4 Blot the lipstick so that it doesn’t settle in the corners of the lips; use a tissue.
- STEP 5 Touch up if necessary and make sure the effect lasts long – use a fixer spray or translucent powder.
Matte nude lips – hit or miss?
Not everybody is big on matte lips but I guess you like the look if you’ve been looking for tips on how to apply a matte nude lipstick for flawless effect. I believe that such neutral shades always look great, no matter what you wear or where you go. It doesn’t matter if you wear glittery/matte/bright/subtle eyeshadow – matte lips always make the right choice.
Let me know if you also wear matte lipstick daily or your heart tells you to put on a lip gloss!
